Funding Road Map
Welcome!
UPDATE
If you’ve visited the Funding Road Map before, you’ll notice that we’ve made a few additions. On the Funding page you can now sort through opportunities by research focus, as well as type, deadline date, and opportunity name. The Extra Information page now contains a broader listing of Canadian and global centres and organizations that relate to global health, research and development. The Fogarty International Center has a wonderful resource – Directory of Grants and Fellowships in the Global Health Sciences – and we’ve added a link to this document on the Extra Information page. Finally, if you’re interested in Indigenous health research funding, a) you’ll notice that there are many more components of the Road Map that relate specifically to Indigenous health, and b) please check out the information about Canada’s ACADRE (Aboriginal Capacity and Development Research Environments) and International Collaborative Indigenous Health Research Partnership (ICIHRP) in the Newly Added section of the Extra Information page.
We're glad that you've chosen to explore the Funding Road Map, and hope that you'll find it a helpful resource for your future global health research endeavors. If this is your first visit, you may wish to take a few moments to read through the information on this page because it will give you an idea of what you'll find within the Road Map.
Also, please make sure to keep checking the ‘Funding Opportunities’ page on the toolbar on the left – it will let you know about the most recent announcements and deadlines related to global health funding.
Global health research can often fall within the scope of broader fields. Consequently, this roadmap includes funding sources that support specifically global health research, as well as those that support global research projects that involve health elements and global health projects that involve research elements. Similarly, training opportunities may be for specifically global health research projects, or opportunities that involve health or research components.
The Road Map is organized into three sections:
Getting Started will be especially helpful if you are new to funding acquisition in general or in Canada; it will provide you with information to help you navigate through Canada's large funding agencies. It also provides direction if you are interested in becoming involved in a global health partnership.
Funding is the fundamental component of the Road Map. It contains summary information about funding sources for global health projects, including eligibility criteria, application procedures and contact information. You can view the sources according to deadline date, type of funding (research funding or capacity development/training) or by the name of the opportunity. The information provided in the summaries is not exhaustive but rather is intended to serve as a guide to help you determine which sources you would like to look into more closely. Please visit the websites of the sources you think are most applicable to your work to learn about all of the details related to eligibility and application.
Extra Information contains additional information to assist you in various ways with your journey of global health work. This section includes a glossary to define terms that are found within the Road Map, and an explanation of Canadian and American tax criteria that your group may be expected to meet in order to be eligible for certain competitions. In order for you to learn more about other global health opportunities and initiatives, this section also contains a listing of Canadian universities' global health institutes and programs, as well as a listing of other Canadian and global health organizations which may have information about funding, training or employment opportunities.
