Description:
“The UPCD program funds projects between Canadian universities and education and training organizations in developing countries. The goal is to enhance the latter's institutional capacity to develop the human resources to address their countries' most important development needs in sustainable ways. At the same time, partners respond to the needs of local communities in developing countries.”
The program has various initiatives to support its mandate. Please check with the AUCC website for updated information about initiatives.

Specific focus on global health research?
UPCD is a development program, not a research program. However, projects for which research is necessary to achieve the goals of the initiative can be funded (please see the website or contact AUCC for detailed information about the proportion of funding that can be directed towards research activities). Health-related projects are eligible.

Eligibility and Application Process:
These components will depend on the particular initiative you’re interested in. Please see the AUCC website, in particular, the Building Success Competition Guidelines and the Application information page (below), for information about the current 2008 initiative.

Deadline:
Again, this will depend on the initiative of interest. The deadline for the 2009 competition was June 26th, 2008, but this may change in future years.
