This is a volunteer experience. You will contribute to some of the cost through a participation fee and fundraising (see Notes).

Description:
This is a volunteer program for young Canadians, half of which takes place in Canada and the other half in an exchange country. The program is approximately six months long, starting in September. You will “volunteer with local HIV/AIDS and health promotion organizations, participate in educational activity days, and living with a host family in Canada and overseas.” The program aims to “strengthen participant understandings of community development, health promotion and HIV/AIDS care and support.”

Eligibility:

  • You must be a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant, between the ages of 21-24.
  • You must demonstrate an interest in health promotion and HIV/AIDS, as well as an open attitude towards people living with or affected by HIV/AIDS
  • You must be in good health and have passed medical and dental exams.

Specific focus on global health research?
The focus is definitely global health; however, it is a capacity building program, not research-based.

You are required to complete an online application form, and either submit it online or send it by mail to Canada World Youth’s Regional Office. Notes:
You must contribute a $250 participation fee, as well as fundraise $2100. You will be provided with the materials and training tools for raising this money.
