“The purpose of this program is to strengthen international partnerships and consolidate emerging networks among academic researchers from Canada and Latin America. These partnerships and networks will serve the development process in one or more International Development Research Centre thematic areas of priority.”

Eligibility:
- your collaborative research may take place between Canada and one of the following countries: Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela.
- you must be a full-time faculty member or graduate student at a university in Canada or one of the above-listed countries, or a full-time researcher at a Canadian or Latin American or Caribbean research institute.
- you must be able demonstrate proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese (if you are a Canadian applicant) or English or French (if you are a Latin American applicant)
- you should familiarize yourself with IDRC’s Program Areas and their respective Program Initiatives (see Programs and Projects in Links) to see if your envisioned project meets their goals and objectives.
Specific focus on global health research?
No, the focus is on general development research but both the Environment
and Natural Resource Management (ENRM) and the Social and Economic Policy
(SEP) programs involve components of health research.
Application Process:
You must submit a complete application package, consisting of a description of your proposed activity, letters of support and an estimated budget. Details about these components can be found in the “Application procedures” section of the Program Guidelines (see Links).

The deadline for the 2007 competition was March 30, but you should check with the website to see if this changes in the future.
